Abstract

Paraquat (1,1′-dimethyl-4,4′-bipyridylium dichloride) remains widely used as a herbicide in many developing countries, despite being banned in several western nations. Poisoning from paraquat poses major clinical and public health challenges, especially inresource-limited settings such as sub-Saharan Africa, where access to critical care is limited and mortality rates remain exceedingly high.
