Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder. It could lead to ocular complications such as cataract and diabetic retinopathy which are visually impairing and blinding. This study is aimed at determining the level of awareness of eye involvement amongst patients with diabetes and their eye health seeking behaviour attending clinic at the University of Calabar teaching hospital (UCTH)/LIONS diabetic centre. Information obtained would guide the development of interventions aimed at improving their eye health seeking behaviour and subsequently prevent avoidable blindness.
